June 7-Vice Minister Niu Dun met with the visiting Namibian Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Mr. Bernhardt Martin Esau. The two sides exchanged opinions on enhancing bilateral cooperation in fisheries.
Vice Minister Niu pointed out that the bilateral relationship had been going on quite well for a long time. In recent years, cooperation in agriculture and fisheries had been progressing rapidly, achieving satisfactory outcomes. He hoped that the two sides could join hands to promote cooperation in fisheries and achieve win-win outcomes. To that end, the Vice Minister proposed five pieces of suggestions: first, to sign the MOU on bilateral cooperation in fisheries as soon as possible; second, to establish the task force on bilateral cooperation in fisheries according to the MOU; third, to strive for more capital support for the cooperation; fourth, to sign the cooperation agreement on animal health and animal quarantine as soon as possible to promote agricultural trade; and fifth, to enhance personnel exchanges and training. Besides, the Vice Minister hoped that the two sides could work together to promote investment and development cooperation among fishery enterprises of the two countries.
Minister Bernhardt Martin Esau fully agreed with the proposals by Vice Minister Niu, highly commented on the friendly cooperation between the two countries, and stated his strong will to promote bilateral cooperation in fisheries.
Lu Xiaoping, Deputy Director-General of the MOA Department of International Cooperation, Chen Yide, Deputy Director-General of the MOA Bureau of Fisheries and the Namibian Ambassador to China were also present at the meeting.
