At the begining of this month Frans Greidanus, Head of Philips Research and CTO Asia signed on behalf of Philips Lighting an agreement with Lingling Wei, CEO of IEDA. This is the first step in Horticulture solutions for Philips in China.
IEDA (Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture) is a subsidiary of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. They develop and supply high tech solutions in horticulture like plant factory, hydroponic cultivation and plant growth units for homes and restaurants. IEDA has 33 demonstration sites throughout China and provides consultancy to 200 demonstration sites.
Frans Greidanus, Head of Philips Research and CTO Asia and Lingling Wei, CEO of IEDAIEDA is launching the project "High-tech Agriculture Demonstration Park" in Beijing, a site of 4 ha. demonstrating the latest developments in Horticulture, including solar greenhouses and a plant factory of 1600 m2. The opening of the "High-tech Agriculture Demonstration Park" is on 1st of May 2011.
Opening ceremonyIEDA is developing a construction standard and mode for vegetable plants dedicated for the Chinese market. This will facilitate and speed up the development of high tech solutions for horticulture and play a critical role for driving the Chinese agricultural production level.
The cooperation with Philips Lighting, in particular the segment Horticulture, involves joint lighting recipe research, demonstration of new solutions at the demo project and joint promotion of innovative horticulture solutions.
