SHENZHEN police imposed traffic controls on roads leading to major city cemeteries, commercial areas and parks to ensure safe Qingming public holidays.

Police expected an increase of 10 percent in the number of tomb sweepers during the holidays and reminded those driving to Jitian Cemetery in Longgang District to use the Shuiguan Expressway and Yanpai Expressway to avoid congestion. With road works continuing on Shahe Road West, police suggested tomb sweepers stagger their visits to Bao en Fudi Cemetery in Nanshan District.

Those visiting the Overseas Chinese Cemetery in Dapeng can use the Xiaomeisha Exit if there is congestion at the Dameisha Exit on Yanpai Expressway.

Checkpoints between Shenzhen and Hong Kong are expected to handle 2.77 million travelers during the three-day public holiday. The peak will arrive tomorrow with 793,000 travelers expected.

Between March 26 and April 1, more than 12,000 Taiwanese returned to Taiwan by direct flight for the Tomb Sweeping Day, an increase of 18.5 percent.

Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory reminded tomb sweepers of fire risk because of low humidity. Temperatures will fall slightly to between 16 and 25 degrees Celsius today.
