A TOTAL of 40 volunteers have been selected to work on the opening and closing ceremonies of the Universiade. Another 400 volunteers will be assigned to guide spectators during the ceremonies.
Smuggled cigarettes
WENJINDU Customs seized 10,565 cartons of smuggled cigarettes Thursday, the biggest seizure by the department this year.
The contraband involved 24 domestic and foreign cigarette brands.
The department will step up a campaign to curb cigarette smuggling.
54,000 violations
SHENZHEN police punished 54,000 violations of illegally changing vehicle lanes in 20 days since it launched an action March 9.
The violations included motorists cutting in, illegal overtaking, illegal U-turns and changing lanes without indicating, police said.
New channels
THE second floor at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint will open at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, after being closed for a month for renovations. It will now provide 52 channels including 25 e-channels for outbound travelers, Shenzhen port office said Saturday.
Outbound channels on the first floor will now be closed for renovations over the next three months. All first-floor channels will be used for inbound travelers when work is finished at the end of July.
