A MANAGEMENT committee for the Shenzhen-Shanwei Cooperation Zone will be established this month.
The cooperation zone, which covers 200 square kilometers in Haifeng County in Shanwei City, is 90-minute drive from downtown Shenzhen.
The establishment of the cooperation zone is one of the important measures taken by the Guangdong Provincial Government to coordinate the development of different regions. One of its functions is to undertake the industrial and technological transfer of Shenzhen companies.
On a field trip, Shenzhen Mayor Xu Qin said the construction of the cooperation zone had been included in the city s 12th Five-Year Program and would become a model zone for the harmonious development of the economy and natural environment.
Dozens of factories had been completed in the zone. Pan China Construction Group would spend 3 billion yuan (US$455 million) on infrastructure. The cooperation zone had attracted more than 40 companies including at least 10 from Shenzhen.
