A MAN shown in video footage quarrelling with a Shenzhen University student over a minor accident on the campus has told Chinese-language media that he was not a public servant as claimed in earlier media reports.
I never said I was a public servant during the whole incident. I have no idea how I became one, said the middle-aged man, identified only as Xie.
Xie was shown in the video footage arguing with the student, known only by his family name Yang, after Yang s electric bike hit Xie s car at Shenzhen University in Nanshan District.
He said a card indicating his car belonged to the city public security bureau was actually a temporary pass to the car park of the Civic Center in Futian District, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
I work for a State-owned enterprise. Xie said he had applied for the car park pass because he often had to go to the Civic Center on business. The paper said, however, that only government staff working at the Civic Center could apply for the car park pass.
Xie said he became angry only after Yang became aggressive. His bike scratched my car, yet he questioned why I had parked my car there instead of saying he was sorry first.
Yang, who Tuesday made a public apology after the incident, claimed the car was in a no-parking area.
The video footage, which was posted online Sunday night, attracted more than 130,000 visits in two days because of the alleged government status of Xie and Yang s claim to have a super-rich father. Yang, however, denied he was showing off his family wealth but was just trying to intimidate Xie who he thought was a government official. (SD News)
