THERE had been a lot of complaints about the increasing instances of illegal parking near the Shenzhen Mangrove Nature Reserve along Binhai Boulevard during the three-day Qingming Festival holidays.
Parking near the mangrove reserve has been expanded in recent years. However, there was always illegal parking after the car parks were full, a Shenzhen Special Zone Daily report said.
On Sunday, a large number of vehicles squeezed in around the reserve. The emergency lane was occupied while vehicles were parked on greenbelts. The illegal parking caused traffic congestion around the reserve.
Some motorists parked illegally even though parking space was still available, claiming they parked as soon as they found a place because the car park was always too busy, the paper said.
Cars also stopped on Binhai Boulevard to let children or the elderly off, causing not only traffic congestion but also safety problems.
Traffic police said it would be better for residents to use public transport at weekends and during holidays. (Jane Lai)
