EIGHT people including six employees of the Shuitian Tollgate in Bao an District were injured in a brawl over a tollgate fee Monday.
A motorist, identified as Lian, and his passenger, surnamed Liu, suffered scratches to their faces.
According to the tollgate management company, Shenzhen Guanshun Road Management Co., Lian claimed he was from Shuitian Village and demanded he be exempted from the tollgate fee.
The tollgate collector refused because Lian could not provide any proof that he was a Shuitian villager.
Lian jumped out of his car and beat the tollgate collector, company deputy manager, who gave only his family Xiao, said.
The employees called police and pulled off Lian s car keys to prevent him from fleeing. During the scuffle, several people were injured, Xiao said.
The scuffle had forced a police officer to fire his gun in the air to calm the situation. Both sides demanded compensation.
Police took a copy of the tollgate video footage for further investigation.
The Shuitian Tollgate is expected to be scrapped at the end of the month.
