MARKET supervision authorities recently confiscated more than 1.4 million yuan (US$212,122) from a car dealership which had charged clients for the quick delivery of popular cars which hundreds of car buyers were waiting for, the Guangzhou Daily reported yesterday.
It was the first time the city market supervision bureau had punished the practice which had been going on for a long time.
The car dealership, which wasn t identified by the paper, was also warned by the bureau, which aims to stop the illegal practice.
The paper quoted a bureau official as saying that the car dealer was suspected of taking commercial bribes by charging some clients extra money in exchange for them jumping the queue.
The practice is also suspected of evading tax. The vehicle purchase tax is calculated according to the car prices released by the manufacturers. So the extra charges a car dealer receives were not declared, said the official, who was not identified.
