Lime tank shut down

Write: Dickson [2011-05-20]

AN unlicensed lime tank where a 3-year-old boy fell in and suffered severe burns to his body had been closed by Longgang authorities, the Daily Sunshine said.

Yang Hao, who is still in a critical condition in hospital, fell into the tank when playing with other children in the Zhukeng community Friday. His father, Yang Xinbing, also suffered burns after jumping into the tank to save him.

Yang Xinbing is in a stable condition, awaiting a skin transplant in Longgang Central Hospital, the paper said, quoted doctors treating the father. Zhang Aihua, Yang Xinbing s wife, told the paper the hospital has told her that her husband has to undergo surgery in five days.

However, Yang Hao s condition was much worse than his father. His chance of survival is rather slim, said Jiang Lewen, the boy s doctor at the Longgang hospital. In fact, his life is being supported with medication and medical equipment, he said.

The medical expenses for Yang Xinbing and Yang Hao are a heavy burden for the family, who did not earn much, the paper said.

Huang Weijian, vice director of the Zhukeng community government office, said he was not aware of the lime tank until the accident. We are talking with the owner of the lime tank, negotiating compensation for the family, Huang said.
