A 2.5-METER polar bear specimen donated by Kenneth E. Behring, one of the 50 most generous philanthropists in the United States, arrived at the Shenzhen Museum on Friday.

This is the second animal specimen Behring has donated to Shenzhen, following the donation of dozens of specimens of American animals in February.

The donation had filled a blank in museum collection, said Guo Xuelei, deputy curator of the museum.

The polar bear specimen was one of the donations after an agreement was signed between Shenzhen Museum and Behring in 2009 for the donation and exhibition of animal species. A third shipment of specimens of 50 African animals will arrive in Shenzhen in May. An exhibition will be opened to the public at the end of the year.

Behring, founder and chairman of the Wheelchair Foundation, was listed three times in the Forbes 400 in the 1990s and was one of the 50 most generous U.S. philanthropists in 2004.

Behring was introduced into the American Academy of Achievement in 1989, the California Building Hall of Fame in 1992, and the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. Suzhou, Dalian, Yangzhou, Tianjin and Shanghai have named him an honorary citizen. (Han Ximin)
