A MAN died Friday from head injuries after being savagely beaten by a group of young men who had allegedly sexually assaulted his daughter near Guxu Coastal Park in Xixiang Subdistrict, Bao an District.
The men reportedly attacked Liu Wenjian, 42, a construction worker at a skating rink near the park where Liu s daughter was assaulted and called for help April 3, according to a report in yesterday s Southern Metropolitan Daily.
His 17-year-old daughter Liu Li went out at about 9 p.m. that day to see off a friend and they encountered the attackers at the skating rink, the paper said.
The men, all about 20 years old, surrounded Liu Li and two men allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Hearing his daughter s call for help, Liu and his wife Qiu Xinlan, his brother and a fellow townsman arrived at the rink and a fight broke out.
The fight lasted no more than a minute. Liu was allegedly hit over the head with a wooden pole.
Qiu found Liu lying on the ground unconscious and called the police.
He was bleeding from the head and part of the skull was sunken when we took him to an ambulance, said Liu s brother.
Liu died six days after the attack. His medical treatment cost about 40,000 yuan (US$6,061).
Police rounded up nine suspects, all Hainan natives, who allegedly admitted being involved in the attack including the two who allegedly committed the sexual assault.
