THREE major accidents on Metro work in the past month were not caused by a rush to meet the deadline, Shenzhen rail construction office said Wednesday.
The three accidents included a train derailment during a test run on Line 4, a burst pipeline on Line 1 at Qianhai Road and the death of a worker in chain hoist failure on Line 5.
Rail communication is a systematic engineering project which involves more than 20 sub systems such as tunnel construction, power supply, environment control and sewage. The projects started in 2007 and the accidents were not caused by a rush to meet deadlines, Zhao Penglin, head of the rail office told a news conference without elaborating.
Five lines in the second phase of the city s rail network were expected to open at the end of June.
But Zhao admitted that risks increased in the final stages.
The March 10 derailment was caused by manual operation, the existing Metro trains are computer-controlled and residents don t have to worry about safety. To ensure safety, every line had been equipped with anti-derailment equipment, Zhao said.
