A NUMBER of government agencies including the market supervision bureau denied turning a blind eye to illegal construction which had been approved for the installation of elevators, water supply and electricity, Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday.
According to the Daily, an Internet user who gave his online ID as Public Servant, said city market supervision authorities were suspected of approving applications for installation of elevators in illegal buildings. However, the bureau denied this, saying the existing regulations did not require the production of a property ownership certificate for the installation of an elevator.
My agency isn t legally allowed to ask a property owner to produce an ownership certificate when he files an application with us for an elevator, said Lin Shuozhong, director of the special equipment management division of the market supervision bureau.
Lin said, however, his agency would study the matter and report to the government. If the Central Government amends the regulations, we will definitely comply with them, he said.
According to the paper, the Shenzhen Water Affairs Group, the city s main water supplier, and the power supply bureau also denied there was a loophole in the approval of applications for power supply.
We never supply electricity to illegal buildings, said an unidentified official with the power supply bureau. He said the agency required applicants to produce property ownership certificate as well as a certificate approving construction.
The water affairs group said supplying water to illegal buildings was not legal. They (illegal building owners) are suspected of stealing water by illegally connecting water pipes to our supply, the group said in response to the accusations.
