POLICE have released a statement saying they regretted issuing an eviction order to tenants of a building in Hengkenghe East Village in Guanlan Subdistrict, Bao an District, but maintained they must move out.
More than 50 tenants of Building No. 389 were told to move out to protect a crime scene March 30 after a laptop computer was stolen the previous day.
We sincerely apologize for the trouble caused to the tenants, Li Tianrun, deputy chief of the Guanlan police station, said Wednesday.
Li said they had detected an illegal Internet cafe in Building No. 389 on March 9 during a campaign to improve the administration of leasing estates and the building had also failed to meet fire safety standards.
The owner of the building had ignored police requests to rectify safety hazards so police prohibited leasing the building.
Li apologized for not notifying tenants properly but said the building would not be deemed safe until it passed safety inspections. (Tina Chen)
