A NUMBER of apartment buildings in Bao an District, which were built on land reclaimed from a fishing pond, were reported to have sunk, the Daily Sunshine said yesterday.
The paper said cracks had been found in five buildings in the housing compound developed by Zhonghai Real Estate Development Co.
Subsidence was also reported in the public area of the largest housing estate in Songgang Subdistrict.
Yi Huaping, a manager of the estate s property management, said his company had raised the problem of subsidence with the developer and an investigation team said the subsidence was normal and residents did not need to panic.
Yi said every building had a five-year observation period for subsidence which would not be a danger to the main structure of the buildings. Zhonghai started filling the cracks with concrete. (Han Ximin)
