A TOTAL of 220 out of 300 trees planted on Shengbao Road in Nanwan Subdistrict in Longgang died over the winter due to cold weather.
This resulted in a loss of about 200,000 yuan (US$31,000), which led residents to fear taxpayers might have to cover the loss. However, the contractor said it would plant more trees.
The same thing happened to trees on Baodan and Kejiyuan roads in Nanwan which were also planted in winter.
The Shengbao Road greening project contractor, Yang, said the company would cover the loss according to the contract.
