HIGH-CALIBER overseas professionals would be entitled to a series of preferential financial and medical policies, according to a Peacock Plan unveiled yesterday.

According to the plan, eligible professionals could be granted hukou and obtain subsidies of between 800,000 yuan (US$121,000) and 1.5 million yuan. Preferential policies would also be provided for their children s education and spouses employment.

First-class professional teams from overseas would be offered up to 80 million yuan in financial support.

The city will attract 50 overseas professional teams and more than 1,000 overseas professionals to start companies in Shenzhen in the next five years, the Shenzhen Talent Work Conference organized by the Organization Department of the CPC Shenzhen Committee said yesterday.

It will lure around 10,000 overseas professionals to find work here in five years.

The city would invest 300-500 million yuan in special fund to aid startups by overseas professionals each year from 2011 to 2015.

According to the plan, the professionals would be graded into three categories.

Category A would include leading scientists or artists in a particular field, people having intellectual property rights or those whose inventions and research had great market potential. Category B referred to experts and scholars who are well-known in their fields and had chaired big international research projects. Category C covers professionals whose skills were badly needed in industry.Foreigners who had won the national Friendship Award or the Guangdong Provincial Friendship Award would be in A and B groups.
