GOVERNMENT authorities were refusing to take responsibility for the removal of illegal gardens in an upmarket residential estate in Xiangmihu, Futian District.

The Xiangmihu Subdistrict Government Office, Futian District Construction Bureau, Futian District Land Supervision Team and the city illegal building investigation office all claimed it was not their business, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.

The Daily found some home-owners in the estate were growing vegetables, peanuts and mango trees on public land April 8 despite the illegal gardens being reported in January.

No law enforcement team has come to remove them, said Wang Xiaowei, director of the estate s property management office. The Xiangmihu Subdistrict law enforcement team told us it was not their business.

An unidentified Xiangmihu Subdistrict law enforcement team officer told the Daily only the Futian District Land Supervision Department had the power to remove the gardens, based on a regulation issued Jan. 27, but this was denied by the department.

We should refer to another regulation which said the subdistrict law enforcement team is responsible for the removal, an official identified by his surname Li with the Futian District Land Supervision Department told the Daily.

The city s illegal building investigation office said it had received the complaint in February and the Futian District Construction Bureau was the department responsible.

The Futian District Construction Bureau, however, said they had no power to enforce the law, kicking the ball back to the land supervision authority.
