THE construction of a public park just south to Beihuan Boulevard in Futian District has not progressed five years after construction was approved by the city government.
Part of the land set aside for the park on Antuo Hill has long been occupied by a quarry, which belongs to Antuo Hill Investment Development Co., the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
The company s exploitation rights expired in September 2008, but it was refusing to move, according to the paper.
A company spokesman, who identified himself as Liang, said the city s land planning department had failed to honor a promise to arrange new land for the company after the expiration of the exploitation rights.
However, the land planning authority refuted the claim, saying the government had no obligation to find new land for the company, but it could acquire new land through public bidding.
The company s refusal to move has prevented the start of work on the park, as well as the construction of residential buildings for three housing estates.
The government approved the park in 2005 and set up a park construction office in 2007.
