A SENIOR 3 student from Shenzhen Middle School received offers from 10 overseas universities for his outstanding performance in the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and active participation in social activities.
Zhu Shangran scored 2,390 points on SAT, just 10 points off full marks. He has not yet decided which university he would attend, yesterday s Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
Zhu applied to 16 universities around the world and so far had offers from 10 universities including Princeton, Brown and New York universities in the United States and Edinburgh and St. Andrews universities in Scotland.
Other universities such as Harvard said they would reply later, he said.
Speaking of his outstanding English skills, Zhu said he liked reading classic English literature, foreign magazines and Web sites. Mathematics in SAT is very easy for Chinese students and the biggest difficulties are reading and writing. Reading more English books and Web sites can help students solve these problems, he said.
Zhu also participated in various social activities at high school. He was a member of the school s student union and co-founded a campus magazine. In Senior 2, he was vice secretary general of the school s Model United Nation Association. He also won several awards for outstanding performance in debating competitions.
