AN elderly woman beggar in Bao an District has become a hit on the Internet after her benevolence was revealed on microblogs.
An Anhui Province native, the woman offered two 1-yuan (US$0.16) coins to a girl student who was crying near Xin an Middle School on April 7, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
She came and tried to comfort me. She thought I was crying because I had no money to take a bus home, said the student, who was identified as A qi.

Netizens described the old woman s story as grass-roots compassion or the most real compassion.
The old woman was not aware of her popularity on the Internet.
She was not willing to talk about herself, saying only that she quarreled with her husband before coming to Shenzhen more than two months ago.
