THE reconstruction of Dachong urban village in Nanshan District has been postponed for about a year because 10 families were refusing to move after talks over compensation broke down, yesterday s Daily Sunshine reported.
The 10 villagers who owned 31 buildings refused to sign agreements for compensation amounts, shares and family issues, Ruan Hongkun, president of Dachong Holdings Co. Ltd. said at a meeting with villagers.
The Dachong project is the city s largest village reconstruction and villagers had started signing agreements with the real estate developer China Resources Land (Shenzhen) Ltd. last year. More than 98 percent of villagers had signed agreements with the Hong Kong-listed developer.
More than 60 percent of the buildings had been demolished, Ruan said.
However, if the 10 villagers refuse to sign the agreements, the work on new projects cannot start as scheduled, which means we are losing money every day, he said. But Ruan didn t explain what the compensation the 10 villagers turned down was.
According to the compensation plan, the village can make at least 400 million yuan (US$61 million) a year by renting out properties, the paper said.
The village company decided to apply to the relevant government department to have the buildings demolished by force to protect the [rights of the majority], according to the agreements by 64 shareholders. (Wang Yuanyuan)
