SHENZHEN police and transport authorities will tighten measures to control illegal business being conducted by owners of private cars, buses and taxis to ensure a secure traffic environment for the Universiade.

Authorities will intensify inspections at checkpoints, transport terminals, roads around Universiade venues and bus stations to check for illegal services, Xu Wei, spokesman for the Shenzhen Municipal Traffic Police Bureau, said yesterday.

Trucks will be banned from Shuiguan and Qingping expressways during the Universiade period, Xu said.

Traffic police were working on detailed plans for smooth traffic during the Universiade.

The number of vehicles will reach 1.8 million soon, and our plan, to be released soon, will ensure smooth traffic from the Athletes Village to every Games venue, said Xu.

By April 7, traffic police authorities had confiscated 1,251 vehicles including private cars and buses providing illegal services.
