A THUNDERSTORM is expected to hit Shenzhen on Friday afternoon. The thunderstorm would bring about 20-40 millimeters of rain and would be accompanied by strong wind at scale 8, or 62 kilometers per hour, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said Thursday.
The observatory warned residents to be prepared for frequent weather changes because the flood season was approaching.
The weather will be sunny with cloudy periods between Sunday and Wednesday before more rain.
Friday s thunderstorm would be weaker than the April 17 storms, which killed 18 people and injured 155 others in Guangdong Province. Hailstorms last week also caused 55 million yuan (US$8.34 million) in economic losses and destroyed 45 houses in Guangdong.
The Guangdong flood prevention and control authority has required relevant departments to prepare for the storm, which will bring heavy rain to northern and western parts of the province. The authority has tightened checks at construction sites, workers sheds, villages in low-lying areas, river banks and reservoirs.
