POLICE have arrested five people suspected of being involved in the abduction of three children between March 27 and April 4 in Bao an District.
In one of the most recent abductions, a 28-year-old Sichuan native, identified only as He, took a 1-year-old boy who was playing at an amusement park in Guanlan Subdistrict on April 4.
He was stopped by two passing residents when he tried to escape with the boy. The two residents handed He over to police.
In another abduction, two suspects used a lollipop to lure a 3-year-old boy, Xu, on April 4.
Police later found the boy in Foshan and arrested the two suspects in Bijie in Guizhou Province and Xixiang Subdistrict in Bao an District.
A third child, a 7-year-old girl, was rescued March 27 when a man surnamed Wan, from Guizhou, was caught trying to take away the girl from her home in Songgang Subdistrict.
The police would step up efforts to rein in child abductions and conduct anti-abduction education at schools, the paper said. (Li Hao)
