LAND reserved by the city government for future development has become a dumping ground for construction waste in Longgang District and the management of the land was even charging trucks to dump waste.
The 180,000 square meters of land was now full of construction waste. Each dump truck was required to pay 120 to 150 yuan (US$18-23) to security guards to dump waste in the area, yesterday s Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
Despite a sign by the gate saying dumping on government-reserved land is prohibited, the security guards even helped the trucks dump the waste.
There were also many waste collectors in the area waiting to collect scrap steel and other construction material for recycling, the newspaper said.
An unidentified employee of the land management section of the Nanling Community Work Station said they had government approval to allow construction waste to be dumped.
According to government documents produced by the employee, only soil could be dumped on the land, but construction waste was not allowed.
