Residents worship Tianhou the indigenous goddess of the sea who is said to protect fishermen and sailors at the Tianhou Temple in Chiwan, Shekou, yesterday. The temple opened yesterday after a facelift which started last year.
The temple dates back more than 1,000 years to the late Song Dynasty when it was named Tianfei Temple. It was renamed Tianhou Temple in 1684. It was first open to the public in 1995 after three years of renovations. Zhang Yaobo
