A KINDERGARTEN building has been deemed unsafe for living due to subsidence in the foundations of a residential building in Longgang District which occurred Thursday night.
Residents and teachers in the Jiukuang Kindergarten were evacuated from the building and authorities were closely monitoring the subsidence, Saturday s Daily Sunshine reported.
The first three floors were occupied by the Jiukuang Kindergarten and 66 families lived in the rest of the building. I ve been living here for nearly six years and everything was OK, but since the subsidence, our building has become a dangerous place, a resident surnamed Chen said.
The kindergarten had suspended classes. Several teachers remained to clear up the classrooms.
Walls and floors in the kindergarten were cracked and the building was leaning, the newspaper said.
The incident was reported to the Buji Subdistrict Office. The Yilonghuating residential building was approved for construction in 2010. The subsidence had been caused by rain April 17, an unidentified official told the newspaper.
A special team was established to investigate the incident and experts have also been sent to monitor the subsidence. A report will be released later this week, the official said.
