Obama Ndesandjo raises money for kids

MARK OBAMA NDESANDJO, the half brother of U.S. President Barack Obama, conducted a book signing session at Sheraton Shenzhen Futian Hotel on Saturday to raise funds for children in disaster areas around the world.

The fundraising Help the Kids, Shenzhen Cares collected more than 250,000 yuan (US$37,879) from the sale of Ndesandjo s English book Nairobi to Shenzhen, with silent auctions and donations from companies and individuals. All money collected will be handed over to the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) to help children in areas hit by earthquakes, tsunamis, wars and other disasters.

Ndesandjo expressed deep concern for children in disaster areas and called for more support from society. He also wrote a calligraphy work ( Love Is Boundless ) in front of about 150 audience members, which then went to the silent auction.

An eight-year resident of Shenzhen, Ndesandjo has been involved in a lot of volunteer and charity work, including teaching piano to orphans in and around Shenzhen. He has been appointed a Volunteer Image Ambassador for Shenzhen and a Special Olympics Image Ambassador.
