Checkpoint travelers
A RECORD 121,000 travelers crossed the border between Shenzhen and Hong Kong at Futian Checkpoint on April 22, the first day of a four-day Easter Day holiday in Hong Kong. The checkpoint has handled more than 85 million travelers since opening in 2007.
School head arrested
THE principal of the Nanshan School attached to Beijing Normal University was arrested for allegedly embezzling 100,000 yuan (US$15,152). Du Zhongchen, his assistant and accountant for the school s training center allegedly split the money earned by the training center. Du was head of the training center which was established in 2000.
Hospitals for Games
THE Universiade organizing committee had designated four hospitals including Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital and Shenzhen People s Hospital to treat Universiade patients.
The health authority would also set up 87 medical teams at Universiade venues.
Fake taxis seized
EIGHT fake taxis were confiscated Thursday in the first three-hour action conducted by city transport authorities. Most of the fake taxis were caught in Longgang District.
The transport commission has set aside a reward of 10,000 yuan (US$1,516) for people who report fake taxis. It is estimated there are at least 500 fake taxis operating in the city. They were remodeled or rebuilt from scrapped cars.
Forgers held
FOUR people were detained for allegedly making and selling fake ID cards in Futian District. They sold each fake ID card for up to 400 yuan (US$61) online. Investigations are continuing.
