Taxi surcharge rise
A FUEL surcharge for red and yellow taxis would be raised to 3 yuan (US$0.46) from Saturday due to international crude oil price hikes, the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission said Thursday. The increase had been approved by the city government.
Green buses
SHENZHEN would deploy 250 energy-efficient buses with low emissions this year in an effort to build a low carbon city, a Shenzhen transport commission meeting was told Wednesday.
There are 730 hybrid-powered buses, 300 LNG buses and 50 electric taxies operating in Shenzhen. The city has opened 33 routes for energy efficient buses.
Beihuan roadworks
THE renovation of Beihuan Boulevard would be completed by the end of June. The city has spent 573 million yuan (US$87 million) on road projects in the first quarter, Shenzhen transport commission sources said Thursday. The work on the 19.5-km Beihuan Boulevard started in May last year and cost 970 million yuan.
Metro services
SHENZHEN Metro trains are expected to transport around 2 million passengers daily when all five lines are operating after June 30, taking the total length of Metro lines to 177 kilometers. The five lines, which cover business centers and residential areas in Futian, Luohu, Nanshan, Bao an and Longgang, had been on trial runs since March.
