THE wife of a Nantou policeman in Nanshan District was shot in the eye when her 7-year-old son was playing with her husband s firearm Monday, Nanshan police said Friday.
The injured woman was in the ICU department at Nanshan District People s Hospital, according to a hospital source, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
The policeman, identified as Yang, in his 50s, went home ill at about 7 p.m. Monday and took off the weapon to take some medicine.
Their son took the firearm when they weren t paying attention and it went off by accident.
The hospital refused to comment on her condition.
Two plainclothes police were guarding her, the paper said.
The public security bureau was investigating the accident and Yang had been suspended from duty. (Tina Chen)
