Diego, following his crucial penalty miss against Hannover which ultimately cost manager McLaren his job.
Wolfsburg head coach Pierre Littbarski has suspended Brazilian midfielder Diego due to his attitude during the match against Hannover, the club said on Tuesday.
Diego stepped up to take a penalty against Hannover during a 1-0 defeat despite orders from head coach Steven McClaren that newly-signed striker Patrick Helmes should take the penalty. Diego ignored the order and rattled the bar wasting the chance to equalize. Englishman McLaren was sacked following the defeat.
"The affair is done for me after the punishment. Diego will have the opportunity to slip into the starting team," Littbarski said.
Diego accepted the fine and punishment, saying: "I am of course disappointed that I will be unable to play against Hamburg. But I have to accept the decision."
Diego transferred from Juventus to the "Wolves" at the beginning of the 2010 season. Up to now Diego has scored only four goals in 19 matches.
Wolfsburg, 2009 Bundesliga champions, sit a disappointing 12th in the Bundesliga with 23 points.
