Atletico Madrid Director, Gil Says Aguero Won't Join Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid's Director General, Miguel Angel Gil said this Wednesday that the club would not sell its star player, Kun Aguero, to local rivals Real Madrid.

Speaking on radio show, El Larguero, Gil referred to rumors in the Spanish press saying that Argentinean international Aguero would join Real Madrid over the summer.

The rumors come just over a week after Aguero signed a new contact with Atletico Madrid, although it has escaped nobody's notice that the new deal lowers Aguero's buyout clause to around $60 million - accessible for a club of Real Madrid's spending power.

Nevertheless, Gil said he was confident that Aguero would be with the club next season.

"He is not going to go to Real Madrid. We are not going to negotiate his sale," insisted Gil.

"Aguero will not go to Real Madrid, not next year or the following year," he added.

Although Atletico are unwilling to negotiate Aguero's sale, the player could still leave if he paid the buyout clause on his contract, but Gil was confident the player would not do that.

"He will not pay his clause, because he doesn't want to do that and the club won't let him do it," he said.

Gil added that Real Madrid had made an offer to buy their Uruguayan forward Diego Forlan, but that Atletico had rejected it.

"It's true they wanted him to cover for the injured Gonzalo Higuain, but we didn't think it was a reasonable situation for a player of Diego's status. We have told Diego that he can go to the club he wants, but always respecting the conditions that Atletico wants to impose," said Gil.
