The Uruguayan press celebrated their football team's ticket to the Olympic Games of London 2012 on Thursday, after they defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final phase of the South American Tournament hosted in Peru.

"London, the sky blue team goes there," sports daily El Observador headlined before continuing: "after 84 years, Uruguayan soccer returns to the Olympics."

Uruguay has won two gold medals at the Olympics; one in 1924 and the other in 1928.

With the triumph over Argentina on Wednesday, Uruguay "assure one of the two placed for the Olympics" after "playing better than Argentina."

The daily La Diaria points out that this ticket to the Olympics is in addition to their ticket to the Under-20 World Cup to be hosted this year in Colombia.

"Uruguay is the leader of the (South American) championship with 10 points and on Saturday it will continue winning, as it could become champion of this category, 30 years after its last triumph," La Diaria said.

The daily Ultimas Noticas headlined "Hello London" and said that Uruguay "was better in the march".

"The soccer of the Olympic Games will welcome a long-time absentee. And it will not have the king of the last two tournaments (Argentina)," daily El Pais said.
