Camacho Sacked as Osasuna Coach

Write: Juliet [2011-05-20]

Jose Antonio Camacho was sacked as coach of Spanish BBVA Primera Liga side Osasuna on Monday.

The decision was taken just one day after his side were beaten 1-0 away to local rivals Real Sociedad, a result which left them in the relegation zone in the Primera Liga with just 22 points from 23 matches.

The defeat was Osasuna's 10th away defeat of the season and Camacho's side have taken just two points in 12 matches away from their El Sadar Stadium.

Camacho, who coached the Spanish national side for four years between 1998 and 2002, has also coached Espanyol, and Real Madrid and Portuguese outfit Benfica. He took over at Osasuna early in the 2008-9 season and was in his third campaign with the club.

The club publicly thanked Camacho for his work in the note announcing his sacking on its official website

He is almost certain to be replaced by former Athletic Club Bilbao and Valladolid coach, Jose Luis Mendilibar, who has been out of work since being sacked by Valladolid last season.
