Danxia landform in Chishui is an outstanding representative of Danxia landform in its early young phase as well as the most beautiful phase of Danxia landform. Chishui Danxia landform features the largest Danxia landscape in China.

Overview

The Chishui danxia landform is situated where the Sichuan Basin meets the Northern Guizhou Plateau, an area of humid weather and dense vegetation. As a result, the danxia landscape combines red cliffs, solitary peaks, huge caves and rushing waterfalls, which contrast beautifully with one another. Due to wet climate and affluent rainfall, this place has developed into the luxuriant forests with more than 90% forest coverage which has been the primeval forest area for many rare and endangered species, living fossils, and dense plant.

With full range of landscapes and an area of more than 1,200 square kilometers (463 sq. mi.), it is the largest and most splendid and beautiful Danxia landform.

The Chishui Danxia landform offers us the gorgeous red cliff, lonely peak and narrow ridge, grotesque mountains, odd stones, huge caves and the beautiful Danxia canyons, green forest, flying waterfall contrast finely with each other. The typical Danxia landform in Chishui, located in the south part of Chishui City, is divided into two sections; the eastern section, the larger one, was shaped mainly by the erosion of Chishui River while the western section mainly consists of the plateau canyon.

Chishui has a striking combination of natural landscapes and cultural landscapes and is indeed a rare tourist resort for global tourist who is always looking for the out of the ordinary. You can be freed from busy lives in the noisy and congested city, throwing yourself into the embrace of Mother Nature surrounded by waterfall, the sea of bamboo, Cyatheaceae, Danxia landform and virgin forest, or exploring the relics that Red Army soldiers on the Long March left to feel their spirit of perseverance.

Location

Chishui is located at the northwest part of Guizhou Province, the lower-middle reaches of Chishui River, and borders Xishui County of Guizhou Province in the southeast and Gulin, Xuyong and Hejiang of Sichuan Province in the northwest. The city is 300 kilometers from Zunyi City, 450 kilometers (280 miles) from the Guiyang, 240 kilometers (149 miles) from the Chongqing, 350 kilometers (217.5 miles) from the Chengdu, and 70 kilometers (37.8 miles) from the Luzhou.
