The Ninth Japan-China Symposium on Statistics Held in Japan


The Ninth Japan-China Symposium on Statistics held in Hokkaido University of Japan on September 26-28. Over hundred statisticians and experts from China and Japan attended the meeting. The delegation of NBS headed by Mr. Li Qiang, Chief Statistician of NBS, attended the symposium, and gave the remarks on the opening ceremony.

Mr. Li Qiang pointed out that, in both of China and Japan s efforts, the Japan-China Symposium on Statistics has been held successfully for eight sessions since 1984, both sides enhanced statistical experts and scholars in academic research capabilities, mutual friendship, and the promotion of Chinese and Japanese scholars in the statistical theory, and played an important role in cooperation and exchanges of application of scientific research works; furthermore, the Symposium has been a communication platform for both statistical experts and scholars. Through the exchanges and cooperation, the both sides will be achieved common progress in the area of statistical research.

During the meeting, the participating experts and scholars in both sides had extensive and in-depth exchange on the statistical theory, applied statistics, government statistics, economic statistics, and other forefront issues; the academic exchanges achieved good results in a warm atmosphere. This meeting collected 93 academic papers, printing more than 460 pages, of which, the Chinese experts presented 48 papers. Messrs. Yang Kuankuan, Director-General, Census Center of NBS; Kang Jun, Deputy Director-General, Research Institute of Statistical Sciences of NBS, and Dr. Shi Qingyan, as the representatives of China read the paper and answered questions raised by other scholars in the meeting.
