China and Finland Sign MOU on the Project of Joint Production of Bio-Carbon

May 26-the Cleantech Finland China Seminar was held in Beijing to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries. President Halonen of Finland and Vice Premier Li Keqiang of China attended the seminar and delivered important speeches.

With the presence of the two leaders, relevant parties from the two countries signed four cooperation agreements in clean technology and bio-technology, worth 1.5 billion euro. Beijing Hebaiyi Energy Technology Development Co., Ltd, member of China Association for Rural Energy Industry, signed the MOU on China-Finland Joint Production and Sale of Bio-Carbon with Finnish PRESECO and GAIA. This is the first joint-venture in China by using a large amount of foreign capital to produce clean energy with agricultural wastes.

The project will last nine years, where the first stage (2010-2012) will see 10 to 12 production demonstration bases to be established in China's major producing areas of straw, with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons. To that end, the Finnish side will provide three million euro of financial support as well as relevant production technologies and processing equipment. In the second and third stages, the introduced key equipment will be produced domestically, and the scale of demonstration and extension will be expanded to provide experience for more extensive use of rural energy, particularly the application of straw-to-energy, in China.
