National Aquatic Wildlife Conservation Awareness Month Launched

National Aquatic Wildlife Conservation Awareness Month Launched

The National Aquatic Wildlife Conservation Awareness Month kicked off on July 18, and will last for a month till August 17. The campaign attracted the participation of nearly a hundred organizations, including National Aquatic Wildlife Conservation Association, WildAid (an international environmental organization), Hong Kong Ocean Park, aquariums on the mainland, and other aquatic wildlife conservation organizations. During this period, a variety of activities will be held, such as SMS, painting and essay-writing contests, as well as broadcasting of publicity films and relevant public service ads endorsed by Yao Ming and Guo Jingjing, in order to appeal to the whole society to be concerned about water resources and take care of aquatic animals.

On July 18, the launch ceremony of the National Aquatic Wildlife Conservation Awareness Month was held in Beijing Blue Zoo, with sponsorship of Aquatic Wild Fauna and Flora Administrative Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and fishery departments at the provincial level. Li Jianhua, director-general of Bureau of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture, Steve Trent, president of WildAid, Zang Chunlin, secretary-general of China Wildlife Conservation Association, Gao Kan, deputy director of the Department of Scientific Popularization under China Association for Science and Technology, and Wu Xinping, deputy director of Children s Welfare Department under All-China Women s Federation, jointly pressed the button of the initiating device of Shark Returning to the Ocean , marking the official launch of National Aquatic Wildlife Conservation Awareness Month.
