On 26 March 2008, a contract of supplying 455 metro cars and 160 double-deck coaches for Middle East was signed in Beijing. The contract value is 360 million Euros, equal to RMB 4 billion. This is the largest contract of Chinese rolling stock for overseas.
There are three kinds of metro cars in the contract with carbon steel car-body and aluminum car-body. New communication system and brake system will be equipped in double-deck coaches. These vehicles will be built in CNR Changchun Railway Vehicle Co., Ltd. which is the largest passenger car manufacturer in China. CNR Changchun has strong ability to develop and manufacture railway vehicles. It has three advance assembly lines for building cars both in carbon steel car-body, stainless steel car-body and aluminum car-body.
Since 2001, CNR have delivered 1,408 passenger coaches and 432 metro cars for overseas market.
