2010 Expo Shanghai China Forum on Science & Technology Innovation and Urban Future Held in Wuxi

The third forum of 2010 Shanghai Expo themed Science and Technology Innovation and Urban Future , was held in WuxiCity in east China s JiangsuProvince on June 20-21. This forum was hosted by MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology), Executive Committee of 2010 Expo Shanghai China, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and Wuxi Municipal People s Government, in which scholars, specialists and officials the world over aimed to address science and technological innovations and the future of urbanization.

CAE Member Yuan Longping, Father of Hybrid Rice , gave a speech entitled Further Research and Development of Hybrid Rice and Ensure World Food Security . CAE Member Qian Qihu, Asian Director of InternationalUrbanUndergroundSpaceUnitedResearchCenter, spoke with regard to urban transportation in the future and the function and importance of inter-city transportation system, which, he believes, can make cities safer places to live in. Besides, CAS Member Shen Wenqing, Vice President of National Natural Science Foundation, talked about the significance of fundamental researches, claiming that they can enhance urban innovation.

In the summarization convention, Mr. Xie Kechang, Vice President of CAE, was invited to give a keynote speech entitled Energy for the Future and Low Carbon Science and Technology .
