The 10th China Patent and High-Tech Products Expo Opened in Jining, Shandong Province

The 10th China Patent and High-Tech Products Expo, hosted by the State Intellectual Property Office, CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering), CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and Shandong Provincial People s Government, was opened at Qufu Confucius Culture Exhibition Center in Jining, Shandong Province, on June 23^rd, 2010. Xu Rigan, Vice President of CAE as well as Members such as Cai Hegao, Fang Jiaxiong, Feng Xisheng, Gai Junyi, Tan Jianrong, Zhang Minggao and other administrative personnel attended the opening, in which Vice President Xu delivered a speech.

Xu, first of all, expressed his acknowledgement for the steady and close technological collaboration between CAE and Shandong Provincial People s Government, esp. Jining Municipal Government, along the years. He also sang high praise of the Party Committees as well as People s Governments at all levels of JiningCity and ShandongProvince, for the due emphasis they ve placed on the implementation of scientific outlook on development, and the enhancement of the capability of innovation and the transformation of the ways to achieve economic growth.

Xu said that CAE had hosted nine China Patent and High-Tech Products Expos in the past decade, together with the State Intellectual Property Office and Shandong Provincial People s Government, through which lots of academicians and specialists started conducting academic exchanges and technological consultation by using this platform. In the meantime, they have also established close ties with pillar industries in ShandongProvince, JiningCity in particular, and some cooperation projects have achieved remarkable accomplishments. Practice has proved that the organization of Patent and High-Tech Products Expo has been playing active roles in strengthening and accelerating the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, promoting better integration of Enterprises, Universities and Research Institutes, as well as regional scientific and technological developments.

Xu praised the tremendous efforts Shandong provincial and Jining municipal governments have made in holding the Expo in succession in the past. Xu said that by inviting industries of various types, academicians and specialists to meet in Qufu, exchanging information, negotiating over projects, aligning techniques, transforming S&T achievements, recruiting talents and publicizing corporate culture, Shandong and Jining are actually helping to build platforms for better integration of Enterprises, Universities and Research Institutes, as well as innovative service, which can be regarded as an important measure taken to promote regional economic and social development. Xu also pointed out that these endeavors very well demonstrated the conviction and determination of the Party Committees and People s Governments at all levels in Shandong and Jining, to speed up the scientific and technological innovation and realize the transformation of the ways to achieve economic growth. Besides, Xu also extended his hope that all the attendees, namely, all the industries, academicians and specialists present at the Expo, should make full use of this precious opportunity to increase academic exchanges, consolidate friendship, deepen cooperation, aiming ata desirable win-win result, thus making this Expo a great success. He also hoped that this fruitful Expo could help to further consolidate and develop the collaboration relationship between Shandong Provincial Government and CAE, together with institutions of higher learning and research academies & institutions, deepen and strengthen the interaction and inter-impact of scientific and technological achievements, research projects as well as talents in science and technology, and further promote and boost the cooperative innovation in the trinity of Enterprises, Universities and Research Institutes by a large margin.

The theme of this Expo was Innovation, Cooperation & Development , in which large quantities of patented high-tech achievements were promoted, technological negotiation and trade was conducted, capital market summit and new venture forum were held, campaigns encouraging better cooperation among science, bank and enterprise sectors were organized, talents recruitment fair was hosted, projects for investment were unveiled. Apart from all of the above, academician as well as specialists forums were specially held, and academician consultation tours were organized. CAE Member Tan Jianrong, CAS Member Song Zhenqi and Mr. Liu Qiang, Vice Chairman of CRRA (China National Resources Recycling Association) gave presentations related to high-tech entitled Autonomous Design from Imitation to Innovation , Knowledge-Based Economy and Strategy of Building up the Strength of the Country with Talented People and Pursuing Scientific & Technological Innovation and Developing Circular Enterprises respectively. CAE Members Cai Hegao, Fang Jiaxiong and many others also joined the academician consultation tours in which they inspected enterprises related to their research fields and provided technical advisory service.

The Tenth Expo, for the first time, included CAS as one of the hosting institutes, and ranked No. 1 in terms of scale, level, total number of attendees as well as the foreseeable far-reaching influence for the future. It is estimated that, a total of 316 technical projects and technical cooperation agreements were reached, with the total investment amounting to RMB 21.69 billion yuan. One agreement worthy of note here is the joint foundation agreement signed by JiningMunicipality and Infinity Stock Equity Fund Administrative Group. Besides, the municipal financial institutions have allocated a line of credit amounting to RMB 4.513 billion yuan to 49 projects, among which 45 projects received loan adding up to RMB 3.024 billion yuan. More figures related to this exposition are as follows: a total of 104 enterprises and institutions joined the talents hunting fair, in which 1,251 people found jobs living up to their job expectations, with 38 of them holding doctorate degree and 266 of them master s degree. What s more, while the Expo was under preparation, host institutes have collected up to more than 180 technical demands and difficulties from enterprises all over the city, and gathered over 6,000 latest scientific and technological achievements, which would definitely help to lay a solid foundation for betterintegration and collaboration of enterprises, institutions of higher learning and research academies & institutions.

Starting from the tenth one, the interval for hosting the Expo will be changed into once every two years from the original once a year, with a clearer focus on science and technology related themes, alternating with International Confucius Culture Festival.
