Nanjing Plans to Build a Greater Central Business District

Nanjing has planned to build a greater Xinjikou Central Business District for many years. On July 30th, clear definitions was seen from the approved general planning of Baixia District: based on Xinjikou Core Circle, bring along development of 6 surrounding cultural commercial streets; by end of the 12th Five-Year Plan , form a modern service industries cluster district yielding production value of a hundred billion.

The planning has defined Xinjikou as the core of the central business district. Development of headquarters economy, hospitality industry, tourism, general merchandise retail, catering industry will be expedited. Now, around Xinjiekou Square, roofs of high-rise main building of Xinjiekou Department Store and Orient Department Store have been sealed.

New Jinling Hotel and Deji Plaza main building are under construction. High-class buildings like the Third Phase of Golden Eagle, East Suning and headquarters of Bank of Jiangsu will be built. In 2011, newly added commercial area will be 60,000 m2 and in 2012, 220,000 m2 will be added, production value per unit area enhanced to 55,000 RMB/m2.

70% of bank headquarters and the district headquarters of the Pacific Insurance and PingAn Insurance are located in Hongwu Road. World famous financial institutes are planned to be invited to this area. Through improving landscaping and completing transportation system, this street will become Wall Street of Nanjing and Jiangsu.

80% of jewelry stores of Nanjing are located in South Taiping Road. Metro Line 3 will pass this area and many blocks nearby are being renovated. It will become a shining cluster area for research, development, display and sales of gold and jewelry.

Yanggongjin between Xinjiekou and South Taiping Road has become an attractive entertainment district due to successful renovation of the old theater. The planning aims to create a brand of Recreation in 1912 and entertainment in Yanggongjing by consolidating the movie theaters and drama groups.

Chaotiangong, Changjiang Road and Xinanli will become 3 culture blocks in the central business district based on their culture, museums, places of interest and folk-custom resources. Chaotiangong scenic area will be extended southward to Zhicang Lane, as an antique industrial block. Xinanli will demonstrate traditional style and features of Nanjing. (Xinhua Daily)
