Nanjing Massacre Survivors Stood in Silent Tribute for Victims of Japan s Earthquake

Mar. 20, 13 Nanjing Massacre survivors voluntarily stood in silent tribute for the victims of Japan s earthquake at a regular gathering. As a witness of the scene, Zhu Chengshan, chief of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, said that, he was deeply moved by the broad-minded survivors.

On the midday of Mar. 20, 13 Nanjing Massacre survivors including Xia Shuqin, Wu Zhengxi and Zheng Xiuying, as well as their relatives gathered at Hongqiao Hotel to welcome the visiting Japanese guest Ms. Matsuoka Tamaki. The 13 survivors all had been to Japan for attestation as witnesses of the Nanjing Massacre.

Xia Shuqin has claimed to right-wingers of Japan for a long time. When everyone was about to take their seats at the gathering, the 88-year-old survivor Wu Zhengxi stood up and proposed that they stood still in silent tribute for the victims of Japan s earthquake. His proposal was accepted by the survivors and their relatives, who immediately followed him.

Zhu Chengshan told the reporter that it was out of his expectation. Wu Zhengxi who proposed this action suffered from 7 relatives death in the family during the 1937 Nanjing Massacre. His grandfather and cousin were stabbed to death by Japanese invaders with bayonet. After the establishment of PRC, he went to appeal and claim to Japan several times. His initiative proposal moved the people on the spot.
