Delta Electronics, Inc., Taiwan's leading manufacturer of switching power supplies, has begun mass production of newly developed LED (light emitting diode) products in its Dongguan plant, Guangdong province, China, with the LED bulbs to be shipped to Japan and for street lighting in Guangdong province.

After being in Dongguan for approximately two decades, the company currently has seven plants there, mainly producing mature products as connectors. To meet Guangdong provincial government's demand, over the past several years Delta has diversified into development and production of LED products.

C.C. Tseng, vice president of Delta China, said one of the seven plants in Dongguan is producing LED products, with current capacity being 8,000 LED bulbs daily and more room for expansion. The plant also makes LED road lamps, with daily capacity reaching 400 sets to meet demand in Guangdong province.

Delta has set up manufacturing plants in Dongguan, Guangdong province; Wujiang, Jiangsu province; Tianjin Municipality; Shanghai Municipality; Wuhu, Anhui province; and Chenzhou, Hunan province. The Dongguan plant accounts for 30% to 40% of Delta's total output in mainland China.

Delta has raised production efficiency by 30% yearly via automation, improving manufacturing processes and facility management, and consolidating production flow management.
