Li Wancai meets British Ambassador Sebastian Wood

Li Wancai meets with British Ambassador Sebastian Wood and his party.

He has a Chinese name Wu Sitian and, ever since he started to serve his term, he has carried out a plan of visiting 8 Chinese cities in 88 days . He has been to Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Lanzhou, exchanging ideas with the local governments about close cooperation between Britain and China, the promotion of urban industrial upgrading, low-emission development, and high growth of the economy. Yesterday, the youngest British Ambassador ever since the beginning of Sino-British diplomatic relations, who knows Chinese well, came to Dalian together with a British business delegation for information on Dalian s economic and social development and cooperation with Dalian enterprises. Mayor Li met with him and his party at City Hall and had an in-depth discussion with them about the development of a low-carbon economy, recycling economy and green economy.

On behalf of the Dalian Party Committee and the Dalian Municipal Government, Li welcomed the guests and briefed them on Dalian s economic and social development. He said that, in recent years, Dalian and British commercial and industrial communities as well as relevant cities have had fruitful cooperation: Standard Chartered Bank opened a branch in Dalian; Dalian and Glasgow are sister cities with frequent exchanges in commerce, culture, education and sports; Dalian and the City of London have reached an agreement of intent, all of which have laid a solid foundation for future cooperation between the two sides. Li said that the Dalian Party Committee and the Dalian Municipal Government will focus on the service industry and improve its internationalization through further opening-up. He expects that Dalian will learn and borrow valuable experience from British development of the service industry through the visit of the delegation, deepening mutual cooperation in the field and achieving mutual benefit and a win-win situation.

Sebastian Wood spoke highly of Dalian s economic and social development. He said that Dalian is an important city in northeast China; the British business community hopes to have close exchanges with a city with such potential to form a good partnership between the two governments and enterprises; all enterprises of Dalian are welcome to invest and develop in the UK.
Cao Aihua, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Dalian Committee and vice mayor, attended the meeting.
