Medical Teams from Tongji and Union Hospital Rushed to Yushu

On April 15, the Union and Tongji Hospital of HUST immediately organized their medical rescue teams and rushed to Yushu quake-hit area.

The first rescue team of Union Hospital was composed of 7 members. Orthopedic Professor Ye Zhewei was the leader. They rushed to the disaster area from Wuhan day and night. Since then, the rescuing action was formally conducted.

In response to the early first aid mainly concerning bone trauma, the team of Union Hospital recruited 7 surgical staff: Prof. Ye Zhewei and nurse Wang Jianqiao from orthopedics department, nurse Li Yanling from general surgery, nurse Xu RuiJing from trauma surgery, nurse Cheng Liang from the operating room, ambulance driver Qiu Zenghui and He Ping'An. They are all experts in treating complex trauma. Since receiving the notice of the hospital, these seven members began to make well preparations without any hesitation. They were determined to live up to the trust of hospital leaders and people, to try their best to fight in the first line of disaster-stricken areas.

At 17:15 of the same day, the first rescue team of Tongji Hospital also set off to Qinghai with the medical workers organized by Hubei Provincial Health Department. The first rescue team was composed of 7 medical personnel and an ambulance. Their earliest arriving time in Yushu is expected to be in the morning of April 17.

This first medical rescue team of Tongji Hospital was composed of experienced clinical orthopedic surgeons and nurses, led by attending doctor Luo Zhengqiang. Members were from the department of orthopedics, intensive care unit, operating room, emergency department and the logistics unit.

The team was equipped with 2 full-time drivers, an ambulance, needed emergency drugs and medicare equipment.
