Israeli Ambassador to China Visited the Center for Judaic and Inter-religious Studies of Shandong University

On January 20th, Mr. Iddo Moed, Minister Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission to China and Ezra Shoshani, Counselor for International Cooperation Affairs from Israeli Embassy in Beijing, visited the Center for Judaic and Inter-religious Studies of Shandong University. Prof. Fu Youde, director of the Center, met with the delegation.

Mr. Iddo Moed said that Israel attached great importance to the Judaic Studies in Shandong University. Every former Israeli Ambassador to China had visited theCenter for Judaic and Inter-religious Studies of Shandong University, and he was very glad to have the chance to visit center. He appreciated the outstanding academic achievements that Professor Fu and his colleagues have achieved in the Judaic religion and philosophy studies. Mr. Ezra Shoshani made a briefing about the cooperation with China, especially with Shandong Province in scientific study and agricultural fields, and focused on the founding fields and fund status provided for the Israeli study in China.

Professor Fu introduced the aim of the Center for Judaic and Inter-religious Studies ofShandong University in detail and the work done in academic study, personal training, international exchange and recent cooperation. He said the Judaic Study in Shandong University was developed in the early 90s. Its aim was to introduce Judaic civilization with a long history and great contributions to world civilization and to China, to strengthen the dialogue and the communication of Chinese culture and Judaic culture, to enhance and deepen mutual understanding, mutual respect and mutual support of the two great nations, and to contribute to China s cultural construction as well as world civilization. Professor Fu talked about the Chinese Translation of Judaic Culture Series published by the Center, research work and student training in Judaic philosophy and religious, academic communication with the universities of Israel, US, Canada and Australia, as well as his two participations in the Israel Presidential Conference at the invitation of the President of Israel. He also proposed his comment and hope in the selection of students to go to the University of Israel for further study.

Mr. Iddo Moed and Mr. Ezra Shoshani also visited the library on the Central Campus accompanied by Prof. Fu Youde. Wang Xiaoling, the Deputy Director of Asian Division of the Shandong Foreign Affairs Office, and Sun Fengshou, the Deputy Director of International Office, Shandong University and other membersattended the discussion.
